One of the interesting thing about stem plants is sometimes your water dosing just sucks and the top of the plant stunts (stops growing). If you cut off that stunted top, the stem plant will typically grow 2-3 side shoots which, assuming your fixed the water parameters, will actually be healthier that to original plant. It takes time, but it does work.
