Crushed Coral?(Answered)

Ok so here is what is going on. I have a 25p setup and it's doing just fine for now, with great growth. However, I want to ass cherry red shrimp. I told this to a person at the fish store and I was told that I should buffer some crushed coral into my system. Now on one of my most recent posts in my journal, a member expressed a concern about having the CC in there.

Here are my current parameters-ish
GH : 90ppm
KH : 170ppm (9.5 Degrees)
PH : 7.4

Thoughts or other information gladly and readily available.

going to? LOL, sorry, yes I have currently about 8 different plants in there right now with some live fish. Hence why I'm asking about this. I wasn't sure about the crushed coral but, this is why I'm on this forum, so much good info and knowable people.

But what do you think? Should I like drop everything and remove it right now?

So are those specs that you're giving us, above, is that how the water comes out of the tap, or are those the specs of your tank, after the crushed coral? I mean, if you have very soft water and you're trying to raise the hardness, there are better ways of doing that. Crushed coral is not commonly used in planted tanks.

But whatever, the ends justify the means. If things are working for you, then don't change anything. Just keep monitoring the hardness. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

You don't need any crushed coral. RCS are pretty adaptable to water parameters and don't need particularly hard water anyways. Not to mention your water is already pretty hard.

Do you think, generally speaking, it's too hard and should get something to balance it out?

I think you should tell us the specs of your tap water, before it goes through the coral.

Your water is fine as is.

If you go about changing the parameters in your main tank, you run the risk of fluctuations each time you do a water change. It's fluctuations that can kill livestock.
