when to modify EI dosing

I am working through some tank problems.

I think I have everything adjusted and I corrected the errors I made over the past 2/3 months.

While I wait for the adjustments to reduce the algae in my tank and hopefully increase HEALTHY growth, I was wondering about EI dosing.

My question is, how would I know if my tank requires an increase in the EI dosing suggestion amounts for my tank size?

Since it has been reiterated and I have noticed test kits are not reliable, (even after calibrations) how do I know if I am low on any fertilizers and need to increase my dosage?

It's hard to tell by looking at the plants. The stem plants are doing the best. They have bounced back and are no longer melting. I did a second trim on them and replanted the tops. The monte carlo and s. repens are not growing very much and they are pale and browning. They are of the most concern.

My guess is the MC is having trouble because of the rhizoclonium. I'm hoping that starts to dissipate with water changes and time. But the s. repens has not been attacked by the algae to the point that I would think it would stunt it's growth. A few leaves have some staghorn on the edges but that is about it.

Here are some photos.

Any thoughts?

What are you dosing now? If it is what is stated in tables for your tank size, that is usually just the minimum starting point.

I am dosing the following. My tank is 17 gallons.

Monday
Micros
1/32 tsp Plantex CSM+B
1/32 tsp Iron Chelate Fe

Tuesday
Macros
1/8 tsp KNO3
1/32 tsp KH2PO4
1/32 tsp K2SO4

Wednesday
Micros
1/32 tsp Plantex CSM+B
1/32 tsp Iron Chelate Fe

Thursday
Macros
1/8 tsp KNO3
1/32 tsp KH2PO4
1/32 tsp K2SO4

Friday
Micros
1/32 tsp Plantex CSM+B
1/32 tsp Iron Chelate Fe

Saturday: rest day

Sunday
50% Water change
Macros
1/8 tsp KNO3
1/32 tsp KH2PO4
1/32 tsp K2SO4

One thing I have never experienced under EI dosing is a reduction in NO3 or PO4 when I randomly test. I don't have any other test kits, i.e. iron etc.

This concerns me because it makes me think my plants are not consuming nutrients. But I think thats the point of the EI dosing method, always provide more than enough. Which may be why my levels never show a decrease. If the plants are consuming properly, my kits probably cant register the amounts between doses.

Every time I test, the colors are the same. As far as I am concerned the ppm results are just guesses. But the colors never really deviate or show a reduction.

Here are my best guesses for the following.
NO3= 20-30ppm (calibrated test kit)
PO4=5ppm (un-calibrated test kit)

I may not change my doses, but I just wanted some opinions.

I am trying to avoid making more mistakes for extended periods of time thus causing continued poor plant health.
