Nitrates from fish tank to shrimp tank

My shrimp tank looks like it is running low N source since there are no fish anymore. If I take an amount of water from my overstocked fish tank, will this be sufficient source of N?

I would be afraid of transferring other things than nitrates between the 2 tanks. Especially as fragile as shrimp can be. The other thing is that all nitrates are not necessarily the same. I know that when I added KNO3 to my already heavily stocked tank the plants took off. Maybe it was the extra Potassium that they needed but fish waste was not enough by itself. And shrimp like really clean water.

Ok, so looks like not a good idea, then. KNO3 is banned in canada because it an explosive. It will just be taken.
I am way too chicken to order it.

Thanks for the help. I will see other options.

There are plenty of Canadian members here, they can probably help you source some fertilizers. Wish I could help you.

If you are located in a city in Ontario, there are various hydroponics stores around the province that carry the fertilizers.

I am in Quebec and i order KNO3 from the plantguy's. He asks for a scan of your driver's license that's all.
