Coffee, anyone?

I have been struggling with my pH, lately and I have to take in and have tap water tested. Outside of that, I have read articles about the effects of coffee on ph and wondered if anyone has any opinions?

Caffeine along with nicotine are strong allopathic chemicals designed to stifle plant growth. Tobacco and Coffee plants produce these two things to kill weeds, prevent insects and wild life from eating the leaves.

pH is not as important as GH & KH. The amount of CO2 in the water can affect pH. Those who use pressurised CO2 will have their tank pH change during the day without adverse effect on fish.

Find the GH & KH values best for your fish and keep them stable. Also test for ammonia, nitrites, and nitrates. Then you can pretty much ignore pH.

Hello pete...

Are you keeping and breeding rare fish? If not, then don't fret over the chemistry of your tap water. It isn't important to running a successful tank. Just treat the tap water to remove the chlorine and chloramines the city water people put into the tap to make the water safe to drink. Make sure you have a sound water change routine in place and your fish and plants will be fine.
