Ammonia not going down

I have been cycling my tank for 4 weeks now and the test results before each WC are the same

pH -- 6.1
Ammonia -- 2.0ppm
Nitrites -- 0
Nitrates -- 0

I am using RO water stored in pickle buckets (washed, sanitized, and clean) and ADA Aquasoil. Plants show no adverse growth or death. My snails are fine and healthy. Had an algae outbreak but I have it under control now. I tried adding Seachem Stability but nothing.

I LOVE SCREEEEMPS!!!!!

It's not ammonia. It's ammonium which isn't very toxic, as long as pH<7.

From what I hear, ADA Aquasoil is known to leech ammonia for quite some time.

(Or does Solcielo mean ammonium leeches from ADA Aquasoil? In which case, I am not sure, I just hear everyone say it leeches ammonia, no mention of ammonium.)

But yes, as mentioned ammonium isn't very toxic to fish, yet plants can still uptake it (if too much ammonium/NH4+, it can melt them).

@Solcielo lawrencia Hey, does aerobic/nitrifying bacteria just turn ammonium into "regular" nitrite or does it turn into some other form that is much less toxic to fish? I've never known for sure.

It's ammonium, not ammonia. Ammonia is toxic, ammonium is not.

Yes, ammonium converts to nitrite, which is toxic.

Ammonia is a gas (NH3) that in contacts with water turns into ammonium ions (NH4+) and a hydroxyle (OH-). It's a reversible reaction.
