Flourish -> CSM+B

So I'm running low on flourish comp for micros and have 2 lbs of CSM+B I've never really had luck using CSM+B but I wanna try it again. Generally I get a lot of hair/brown algae when last I used it but now I have a lot more plant mass and want to see if its going to work.

I have a 40B and at the moment I does 5ml of Flourish comp 3X a week. ( also dose 3ml of seachem Iron 3X on macro days)

I was looking at a site to make a solution of CSM+B in a 500 ML bottle dosing 5ML 3X a week. I can't really find a calculator online that I understand. I found this one but it only lets you select 5 doses a week as minimum and I dose every other day.
Aquarium Calculators | Estimative Index | DIY Aquarium Plant Food Calculator

I found this post
https://www.plantedtank.net/forums/8-...ion-csm-b.html

It says 1 tablespoon to 250ml of water and dose 1 ml for 10 gals.
What is the Iron in this solution?

Any help would be appreciated

Please read this thread and then decide to be absolutely certain you'd want to go this route with only CSM+B for all trace elements.

I would look at the concentrations of Flourish and then match that with CSM+B. I would not use iron as the proxy since this results in excessive amounts of all other trace elements. Supplement additional iron (from FeEDTA, FeDTPA, or Ferrous gluconate) to reach the same concentrations.

what calc do you use? everyone I look up seems to be broken or doesn't allow you to put in the amount of nutrients you want.

What does everyone use to make a batch of CSM+B every page I look up seems to be different I've seen 12g per 250ml 18g per 250ml .... 45g per 250 ml seems no rime or reason to any of it.

I use the one I wrote. The link is in my signature.

I don't understand why so many calculators have different numbers. Clearly most are not following the basic calculations necessary. The numbers from my calculator magically match Wet's old online version. In fact I had worked with him on his online version and he helped with my downloadable version. You can check the numbers against the one that is in the process of replacing yet another nutrient calculator, http://rotalabutterfly.com/. They both match because we both are doing the correct math .

If you need help making a solution of Plantex let me know.

That calc says add 92.75g in 500ml and dose 5ml. That equals .5 iron. I use 32 gallons as tank size.

Will that even dissolve in 500mL?

That's the correct dose. However, as SL pointed out, that amount will not dissolve in 500ml. I'm not sure why they're warning isn't working. That site is in beat. Apparently they have an issue regarding solubility warnings.

Instead, move up to a 10ml dose. Add 46.38 gm (approximately 10 3/4 teaspoons) to the 500ml container and dose 10ml at a time.

It is more than needed. What levels of iron do you want to target?

Yup, 0.1321 ppm of iron.

If you want to use iron as the proxy for Plantex then the amount to add to 500ml using a 5ml dose would be 24.5 gm is approximately 5 3/4 teaspoons

Side by side comparison Plantex -vs- Flourish Comp, iron as the proxy,

Code:
Element Plantex FLourish Comp

B 0.0162 0.0037
Cu 0.00182 0.000041277
Fe 0.1321 0.1321
Mg 0.0283 0.0454
Mn 0.0379 0.00487
Mo 0.001011	0.000371
Zn 0.0075 0.000289

Thanks a lot that info helps. I'm curious though do most people shoot for .5ppm of iron as a range for EI dosing?

I've been searching around at old posts, this one says to aim for .1-.2ppm of iron when dosing CSM+B.

Have thoughts changed since then?

Some plants seem to be iron hogs, but my feeling is most people started dosing more iron because they heard extra iron brought out the reds in plants. Which is debatable, or at least dependent on other factors as well. I don't think there's any real agreement on how much extra iron, if any, is useful.
