Exclamation Help - K2SO4 - overdose - what now??

OK, stupid me dosed the K2SO4 in the amount I should be dosing the KN03. Meaning in a 20g tank it got 1/8 tsp instead of 1/32.

Should I be worried??

How do you feel about a 50% water change? Then you only have to worry about half as much.

That won't hurt anything, I promise.
I'm honestly not sure you can ever overdose on potassium, though I wouldn't recommend pouring in an entire pound to test.

Thanks ....... did a 50% water change anyway. Good thing it was the three small tanks, two 15G and a 20long.

I've got critters in all of the tanks and worried more about them.

Good to know, though I have learned my lesson to pay more attention to the labels.

Just by random luck, my individual ferts are all in different size bags. It really helps me to avoid using the wrong fert.

Unfortunately, at this point in my life I don't think that would help me! I would forget what size was for which fert.

LOL

For those who tend towards these errors you can always premeasure the daily doses into small vials. I have a ton of little brown glass bottles and fill all my bottles at once with the bulk fert powder for the macros. I dose micros straight from the bottle since it is just one powder. Prepacking prevents errors, it also works for people who take alot of meds and has been shown to reduce med errors. Now my problem is that i forget whether I dosed micros or macros on the previous day. pretty soon I will need one of those day of the week pill planners for my ferts.

In all seriousness, I was going to recommend one of those. buy 4, and measure everything out once a month. it works great!

Why don't you try PPS-pro method of fertilizing.
You premix the macros in one bottle with distilled water, do another with CSM-B and use a medicine syringe to dose daily.
It's easy, you just have to remember how many ml per tank.
And you dose in such minute amounts, if you mess up it's not a big deal.

This is more the problem than dosing the wrong "white" powder, which I've only done once. Consistency is the key. Remembering when you did the last water change and then start the dosing with the same element, one can always count back and figure out what comes next.

I refuse to give in until I have to. I need to force myself to pay more attention to what I'm doing! But, I will be looking for a vendor that sells large quantities of small vials. Then maybe the pill boxes but that may not work since I might throw my night meds into a tank!! LMAO

I use those weekly pill containers for my ferts when I go on vacation. That way I can tell whoever is watching the fish "Just dump that day into the water". I do the same for food. This way there is no worry about them measuring or over/under feeding. Works great.

Dont worry K2SO4 will not affect fish, not even shrimp. Even if you had added more than double of what you mentioned nothing bad would have happened.
