Replace root tabs in a lush, established, dirted tank?

Is it necessary? I suspect it might be more stressful to shy occupants to have me digging around in the back of the jungle-like tank. Plants don't appear to be wanting for anything. I follow Seachem's schedule and dosing (eventually may switch to dry dosing to save money, but for now the liquid stuff is pretty idiot-proof and my plants look great).

I place root tabs under sword plant's and old crypt plant's about once every three or four month's in my dirted tank's due to large root system of these plant's .
This way,,even if nutrient's in soil begin to become depleted near these plant's I can provide more nutrient's without re-doing the tank.

That makes sense...targeting the things that actually need heavy root nutrients. That 1 pellet every 4-6 inches seems like it would be overkill for most things. I've always been under the impression that fish detritus takes care of a lot of root fertilizer needs.
