DIY CO2 with Ceramic Diffuser.

Hello,

I have a DIY CO2 setup which consists of a single 2 litre bottle and separate 20oz bubble counter. I bought a ebay ceramic diffuser but having problems with it actually diffusing bubbles. The first time I hooked it up it ended up blowing off of the line (causing no damage). I tried again last night and the bottle was pressurized quite abit but no bubbles came out. I'm afraid that I'll either blow it off the line again or blow up the CO2 bottle.

Is it likely that the diffuser I bought is garbage and the ceramic wont let the bubbles escape?

I think I have around 3-4 bubbles per second coming out of the co2 bottle. and the check valve is just a couple inches from the top of the bottle.

any suggestions would be fine.

Personally, I've only used ceramic diffusers with pressurized CO2. I've only used a bubble ladder with diy Co2. I don't think that diy will develop enough pressure for a ceramic diffuser. Did the co2 line blow off before or after the check valve? If the line blew off between check valve and the yeast bottle, you may want to verify the check valve is installed in the correct direction. If the line blew off after the check valve, you might be right about the diffuser being defective.

I'm interested in hearing other opinions, but I think that if the pressure is that high and no bubbles are coming through then it may be defective.

I run a DIY bottle on my 20g and I connected a new ceramic diffuser today. The bubbles have to trouble going through.

I second the defective idea, ive seen DIY co2 setups using small glass diffusers. Its my understanding that some will work and others will not. Depends on the size of the diffuser i suppose.

I have used a ceramic diffuser(bought off Ebay) with DIY CO2 and it worked fine. It took a long time to pressurize enough to start making bubbles though. I believe it took about 24 hours before I saw bubbles.

Update.. its blowing bubbles now finally.. It took about 3 hours for the bubbles to start. The mixture has been going for 3 days now.

I guess I just didn't wait long enough.
