Fertilize an estblished tank

I have a tank with substate in the bottom of my tank with around 6-8 plants that do well i am now looking to add more plants and because my substate is 3 years old i figure there is a way to rehydrate the my bottom in order to add more plants any suggestions im just trying to make the tank natual for my tetras and Angels its 55 gallon have T5 dual 48 inch lights. Thank you im sure this is asked a lot

The simplest route that would still use full ferts, Macro and Micro, would be Osmocote+
capsules. In the sponsors section there are at least a couple of them who sell ferts.
If they have the capsules I don't know. And at least one of the members sells the capsules and I have bought from him with good results.

They are not expensive and on the bottle that it comes in from like Walmart Garden Supply it says "Last up to 6 months" so 5 month sounds reasonable to expect from
the capsules. I'd place them as deep in the sub as possible and only as directed.
In a 55g tank that would be one row down the middle 6" apart so 7 of them.

The shortest distance between any two points is a straight line...in the opposite direction...
