Good alternative for CSM+B???

Guys,

Can anyone recommend a good alternative for dosing CSM+B? I'm going to order more from Rex soon but I'd like to know if there were anything else that may be just as good (or better) than CSM+B.

Thanks,

There is a sticky at APC about various trace Plantex products, but sadly most of them aren't available in the US.

Rex contacted Plantex concerning getting their trace product that already had the Boron in it so that he wouldn't have to add it his self. Plantex said that they will ship it to him if he would order a pallet of it. That was too much and too costly.

Have you tried Seachem's Flourish (comprehensive) or the somewhat expensive Tropica's Plant Nutrition liquid?

There was some discussion a year or two ago about some people coming up with a new trace product. I don't know the status on this.

I'll have to check out that sticky, sadly I hardly visit that site for obvious reasons.

So are you saying the stuff I got from Rex don't contain Boron? I thought it did, hence the B in "CSM+B" as advertized.

I'm not familiar with Flourish but I've read that it has Ca and will raise your water hardness. I have liquid rock coming out my tap already so I wouldnt want that if it's true. Have not heard of Tropica Nutrition either.

Thanks for the names.

Rex purchases CSM and he has to physically add Boron himself to the CSM so that it is CSM+B. I believe that he uses Boric Acid for B.

CSM+B isn't available in the US directly from the manufacturer, but CSM is. That's why people have to add it themselves. The APC link goes into these goofy details. It is funny in a way.

You are only adding a tiny amount of Ca from Flourish. It is a trace nutrient fert mix.

Seachem's recommended dosing for Flourish is 3.3 mL in 40g two times weekly. We can use the fertfriend to calculate how much this is.

Each recommended dose adds 0.0305 ppm of Ca. That isn't much at all. You'll never know that you added it.

Many folks prefer Tropica's Plant Nutrition liquid over Flourish, but it's price has a few folks balking. A 500 mL bottle of Flourish is $8.99 and a 500 mL bottle of Tropica's Plant Nutrition liquid is $19.99 or $11 more at BigAl's.

You can read about Tropica's ferts on their site. There is not a direct link to their ferts.

Some people have mentioned that CSM+B is antiquated, but what is available this cheaply?

I guess that sums it up then. I'll probably get a bottle of Flourish to try since it's fairly cheap to obtain. I just contacted Rex and he seems to still be alive so I'll be ordering from him soon. Thanks LeftC.

This thread should be helpful with locating CSM + adding B using H3BO3 (Boric Acid) to make it CSM+B.

I bought the complete package from Orlando. Dry ferts are cheap and last forever.
