Can one dilute prime with distilled water??

I have a 38 gallon tank. the 50% water change then roughly equals 20 gallons. this comes out to like... 1 thread...or some stupid thing like that... on the prime bottle.

I have diluted all my ferts so that they go in flourish bottles, and the 5ml cap is a single daily dose. I like this. Can I do the same with the prime?

Well remember that you take %50 of the water you have in your tank. Substrate, plants, and other items like wood actually allow less than the 38 gallons you begin with. So if your taking 20 gallons out each time its most likly more than %50 of the water. I would say 15gallons at the most would be a good water cahnge. And you cant dilute prime. There is no way this would work.

I use a smaller bottle that dispenses drops.

Just go to walmart and get a 3cc syringe from the pharmacy. Ask over the counter. THey WILL have them behind the counter or may even have them in front.

Doesn't Seachem have a rep on APC? I can't see why you couldn't dilute it. It's got to have a base of some sort, and I don't think it reacts with the water, just the ammonia and chlorine.

With that said, I think some of the solutions offered up here might be easier than dilution.

The Seachem forum at PlantGeek.net is active. Tech people check in quite often during the day on Monday through Friday.

Seachem has a forum on their website where you could ask.

PetSmart is one of the places that sells a 50 mL bottle of Prime that has a different flip top cap that allows you to count drops instead of counting threads. You can refill it when empty.

lol you misinterpreted his post. He said he does a 50% waterchange, and 50% of 38 is about 20. He didn't say he took out 20 gallons, he is just assuming it is 20 gallons.
