Iron Dosing

This is kind of an odd question but....I had a hair algae problem that seemed to be directly related to dosing iron ( I stopped dosing iron, algae went away. To experiment, I added iron again and hair algae came back.)

Then it occurred to me that we have always said we have iron in our well water due to staining of the fixtures and white clothes. Should I then assume that my water has enough iron that the plants are able to use? The plants are growing well, no sign of deficiency that I can see. The tank has been running for about four months. As you can probably tell I am fairly new to planted tanks and fertilizing.

Seems in your case you've answered your own question. If the plants look good without it and algae appears with it, stop dosing and just watch the plants. Yes well water can supply needed Fe.
