High PH and expired PH strips

OK so I just picked up some PH test strips from the LFS which is 30 mins away. They did not have the chemical version so I was stuck with Quick Dip. I get home and see that they expired 2009/01 oh great!!! I call the LFS they tell me they should work fine. I test my PH and it says it is in the 8 range. OK how can this be? Does this mean my Kh must be high as heck? I have not tested Kh because they did not have the test kit there. My CO2 drop check is reporting that I am at 30 ppm CO2 saturation which is good. I have 2 bubble per sec on 46gal tank. Now I am a little confused here. Is the Quick tabs not working correctly?
Did not know I could have 30ppm CO2 with PH of 8 still? Is that possible?

The kH/pH/CO2 chart can be affected by many things, including your substrate. You can have 30ppm of CO2 in any pH.

With that said, I've never had success with the quick dip sticks. Make sure you have accurate 4 dkH solution and go with the drop checker. Order a good set of test kits online or find another LFS in the meantime.
