Water parameter question

Alright so my tank has been up and running for a couple days. I have a 125 low tech with the organic miracle grow capped with a layer of gravel for substrate. For lighting I have 3x 24" finnex planted+ fixtures. I tested my water and my PH seemed a bit high it was 7.4 so I tested my tap and the tap water is at 6.6 the lights had been on for about 5 hours when I tested. Also I am running them 8 hours a day should I keep it at 8 hours or go down to 6? Also why would my ph be so much higher than my tap is it because it is a newly set up tank?

pH is not a stand alone value. Many things in the tank can control the pH.

Test and post back with GH, KH of tap and tank.
Also, run some tap water into a glass and let it sit out 24-48 hours and test the pH in that.

If you think it is something in the tank (perhaps the gravel) then put a handful of gravel in a different glass and test GH, KH and pH every few days for a week (less if it changes sooner). Do this with each material from the tank that you think might have an affect on the pH, GH or KH.
