Water conditioner

Hy, im new to the hobby and i was just wondering: if i dont have sensitive fish and shrimps can i just skip to use water conditioner or will it kill the Bacteria and cause an algae bloom cuz of an ammonia spike ? I never used it before, but i didnt do Ei and i was able to let the water rest for 1-2 days before adding it to the tank. But now i cant.Is it possible to do a 50% water change, while turning off the filter and add the Conditioner into the tank and turn on the filter afterwards? The only conditioner i can buy in my LFS is Sera Aquatan, is that any good? Thanks for help.

water conditioner removes chlorine and other contaminents from your water. If you let it rest for 2 days, it should be fine, at least from a chlorine stand point.

It will depend on your water supply. Is it from a well or city water? Does the city add chemicals to the water supply? Can you get a water analysis from your city water department.
I have 3 tanks so I use a rain barrel. Fill it with water from the tap at the correct temperature and add my water conditioner. Stir it for a while and then do my water changes using a small pump to pump it to the tanks.

ah, my mistake. I misread your post. I just fill a bucket with tap, add the conditioner, then add it to my tank. I also sometimes add the water first then add the conditioner after. However 50% water changes might be much.

when your adding water to a tank with fish, your water will be alot colder then the water already in your tank. some fish die if it changes to fast.

if you don't have any fish yet, fill the tank up and add enough conditioner for the whole amount, then use buckets and try not to add any chemicals directly to the fish lungs, poor little guys, its like living on a roof in la, above the highway, lol

Thanks for the suggestions. By the way, does the water conditioner neutralize for example Zn and Copper from my Fertilizer too?
