api c02 booster?

Anyone have any experience with this stuff? My lfs didn't have excel or flourish. So I figured I'd give this a shot. I'm assuming since it's api it'll be decent. From what I hear though liquid co2 is just that. Any input is appreciated.

Its your standard expensive liquid CO2. Metricide 14 is strong and much cheaper. You can get a gallon on ebay for around 20 bucks.

+1 for metricide^

That API is basically the same thing as Flourish Excel. Ive used a couple bottles of it, no noticable difference between the two. Think of any liquid carbon source as the middle ground between real CO2 and none at all. It's nowhere close to the real thing, but it does make a dramatic difference compared to nothing.

Does it have dosing instruction on the bottle?

1 ml per 10 gallons every day

Edit: Oh wait, you mean Metricide? 6 ml of metricide14 equals 10 ml of Excel/API. In the beginning you may want to adjust accordingly. Personally I just dose 1 ml per 10 gallons and dont worry about it.

It doesn't because its used for medical purposes, sterilizing equipment, but 1ml per 10 gallons is a good start. Metricide is a lot stronger than api booster. I use it everyday for algae control.

I use API CO2 booster. It is the same active ingredient as Excel or Metricide, glutaraldehyde. The three can be used interchangeably, although with Metricide you need to account for the increased concentration.

CO2 booster costs me $8 per pint from Amazon, which is enough to last me 78 days (I currently use 6ml/day) . I need about 5 bottles a year at this rate, so it costs me $40/yr..

For about $32 I could by 2l of excel, which would last me just shy of a year, so the cost is about the same, if I'm willing to use more storage space.

I could also buy a gallon of metricide 14 for $32 from Amazon, which would last me a very long time.. I'd use 3.6ml/day of that, so 1 gallon would last me 1051 days, or 2.8 years. Much cheaper, although currently I'm not sure I want to store that volume and concentration of metricide, as I have a young child (yes, I do take precautions with the CO2 booster, but I'd have to take more with the metricide).
