If your numbers are right it looks like all your fish are gonna croak. Your CO2 would be over 74ppm 13.4dKH pH 6.5 WOW!

I think a better explanation for the measurements would be that these test strips were used, which are notoriously inaccurate.

240 KH / 17.9 = 13.4 dKH Not 100% accurate on the chart because there's other stuff in the water but it ballparks as over 74ppm of CO2 there's a chart sticky posted at the top of this section. Average injection level is 30ppm.

I agree. The best tests to use are the drip kinds. But even those need to be calibrated with known standards. I just did that, and my kit was off by a good degree.

I would try to get to about 4 dkH. GH is not so important, as long as you have both Calcium and Magnesium in there. Plants can't grow if one of those is missing.

Foster & Smith sells online everything API kits are cheap and pretty good. About $6.00 for GH and KH. Find out what your water is and base CO2 on a 1 degree drop in pH. Get a drop checker too.

Oh, the drip test suggestion:
I use API, but I have heard of people making their own test kits.
Just google around a bit. If you can read German, I can give you a good link, but I'm not really willing to translate whole websites

Work with the water you've got. If you seach my name most all my started posts (strings) have to do GH, KH and my switch to RO. Don't ignore GH or long term it will bite you in the plants. With just Ca and Ma your relying on ferts. for everything else. The little stuff counts.

NO! PITA I had too as I want angels in my tanks, veil strains and blacks so I needed soft water.
Get decent test kits, find out what coming out of the tap and go from there.
