ferts and evaporation

Hey, im very new to this planted tank hobby and i always have a bunch of new questions on my mind. Since i bought new lights, 2x24w T5HO, i have noticed the water evaporates much quicker. Is it cool to add ferts to the water i top with? So for example if i have a 1 L water evaporation i simply mix one liter with 0.1 ml (1 ml per 10l water) of macro solution + traces and add to the tank?

I'm sorry if this has already been answered elsewhere, i'm still getting used to the forum layout and the massive amount of content makes it somewhat overwhelming.

Fertilizers don't evaporate, so there is no reason to add more just because you need to top up. Same goes for salt, GH boosters or KH boosters, or really nearly any dissolved substance that don't normally evaporate on its own.

The only thing evaporating is pure water, and the fertilizers stay behind and get slightly more concentrated in the new, smaller volume of water.

evaporating concentrates your solution, if you top off with 0ppm RO/Distilled then it will bring it back to where it was.. what ever you do do not dose your top off water as your concentrating it further... if all you ever do is top off water out of the tap, and forgo water changes then the unused minerals will quickly concentrate and your water become harder and harder as PPM's continue to rise unchecked.

I have no access to RO water, could i top with tap water and then just do a weekly 50% waterchange? or would this not be enough?

Thank you for your replies!

as long as you do your normal partial water change it should bring everything right back in balance, as your draining the concentrate and replacing it with a dilution.. its going long periods of just topping off without actually replacing water that it becomes an issue, like when your away and someone is care taking your tanks.. in those situations go buy your caretaker a few jugs of RO or Distilled.
