Emersed HC, Seachem Fertilizers

I am going to be emersing some HC soon, and I chose to use liquid ferts because it will be easier to make my bottle to mist with. The tank volume is low, so they will last forever regardless.

Seachem Flourish N, P, K for macros, and I will use regular Flourish for micro dosing.

48W 6500k T5HO lighting 8 inches above the tank. 12 gallon long.

Should I use root tabs? I am doing an inert substrate of eco complete topped with fine sand. I know Aquasoil is better, but even one bag is a huge investment. Also looking for any tips to enhance inert substrate.

When I mix the ferts, should I put the whole tank volume's dose in one bottle of water or mix a proper dose for that volume? I am not sure if the plants will get enough nutrients from that small of a dose if it is properly measured.

Planning on misting macros / micros on different days once a week or so, and I will use dechlorinated water on other days.

Thanks for reading; I would greatly appreciate any tips you have.

Hi dasit88,

I am not so sure that the Seachem products will serve your purpose for emersed growth - although they work fine for submerged growth. I grow H.c. 'Cuba' emersed and I find that a fertilizer that is designed for 'foliar feeding' (i.e. absorbed through the leaves) works best for me. I use Miracle-Gro Water Soluble All Purpose Plant Food mixed to 1/2 strength and spray that on the leaves. Also H.c. and H.c. 'Cuba' seem to grow better if I add a little 'hardness' to the water I use so I will use a little Seachem Equilibrium when watering the substrate.
