Ich Problem

alright as you know i work at petsmart and we have ich in about 24 out of our 200-250 tanks and its really bothering me i keep telling my manager the proper way to treat ich is to raise the temperature to 82 degress, use salt or some type of treatment but instead we use the jungle parasite tabs which i dont like and i dont think work that well for some reason in these 8 tanks we still get the worse ich they even changed out the gravel at one point but the ich still comes back our water parameters are fine what could possibly be the problem? the water temperature is usually kept at 74-77.5 i think it jumps sometimes which causes the ich but im not really sure?

42 gallon hex journal coming soon

It's probably the fish. They probably come in from the supplier with ich, or with weakened immune systems so that they rapidly get ich (perhaps change in water parameters?). Are the tanks affected always stocked with the same type of fish? At my work cardinal tetras keep coming in and getting ich, so we finally stopped stocking them until we get a new supplier. If they are wild caught, which many suppliers stock, it is very likely due to the change in water parameters since it they are almost definitely different from their native habitat.

Welcome to corporate america, do what you can, ignore the rest.
If you can get through the red tape, do so, if not, oh well.

Every Petsmart I've been to, all the tanks are linked. Is that not the case?

At any rate, ich meds need to be used for 1 week minimum, 2 weeks is better. Jungle Tabs do not contain any of the normal meds typically used with ich.
You would be better off with Ich Attack, Rid Ich, Maracide, or even Quick Cure, as well as raising the temp to 86.

If it is in your nature to care about fish and learn the best methods to do so, I see a lot of frustration in your future if you continue to work there. Sorry.
