Adding Potassium

Trying to go the dry fert route. Picked up a lb. of K2SO4. Been searching to try to find this answer but still not sure.

How many grams of K2SO4 would I have to add to 250 ml of water to equal the dosing recommendation (5 ml for 30 gallons) of Seachems Flourish Potassium? Bottle states that this dose raises potassium by 2mg/L.

I have been adding Seachems Flourish Potassium (along with other ferts) twice a week and it's working out very nice for my plants. I would like to duplicate this dosage using dry ferts.

Thanks in advance for any responses.

This may help.

Lets see...
if you shared 2-1/4 grams among all your tanks, then that would raise the potassium by 2 ppm.
There are 22 doses of 'water' in 250 ml when you dose @ 5ml/30 gallons.

I am coming up with 50 grams of K2SO4 mixed with 250 ml of water.
Dose @ 5ml/30 gallons to raise the potassium level by 2 ppm.

Thanks for the fast response Diana.

50 grams it is. My new formula for saving some money and buying dry ferts.

Also thanks for all your knowledge that you share on this site. I really appreciate it and I always look forward to reading your posts and responses.

Did you run that calculator and get the same amount?
Probably good to have a check on my math. It has been a long day.

Having just mixed some yesterday be aware it is near the solubility limit, so shake and shake and invert and shake some more.

I just tried to mix some in a glass measuring cup--Not working.
I poured everything into an empty bottle and am in the process of shaking, shaking, and more shaking.

Be sure it's all the 500ml you are mixing with. If memory serves 60 grams is about the limit so you should be under it, but it still takes a bit of mixing.

I had been depending on Equilibrium to provide enough potassium (it's the main ingredient) but found I still did not have enough over time, and have been adding it. It's surprising how much of the liquid (even this concentrated) you need to get an impact.

Lots of good calculators out there, he's one I usually use: http://rota.la/

My calculator is coming up with 50 grams with 250 ml of water not 500 ml.

Will 250 ml vs. 500 ml put me over the solubility limit?

Use this calculator:

http://calc.petalphile.com/mobile

Very easy to use. You can use grams or tsp to measure your dry ferts.

You can mix any concentration with most calculators (well, up to solubility), so I don't know what you are mixing.

I THINK that 51 grams in 500ml gives you the same as Seachem Potassium but that's going by an old note I had so check.

When I run the calculator it says the solubility limit is

The solubility of K2SO4 at room temperature is 120 mg/mL. You should adjust your dose.

Unless I'm missing something 51 grams should be OK as that's less than that rate, but it still complains, so I am a bit confused by that.
