Tap water parameters seem off

Hey guys so I'm in the middle of cycling my 40 breeder and I did some tests on my current parameters. I'm coming off a reed tank so I am just learning the basics of freshwater parameters.

Tank parameters are
7.6 PH
7 KH
4 GH
180 TDS

I think those are pretty normal parameters. I'd like to keep CRS so I want to bring down my PH and TDS.

Now my tap water parameters are

7.4 PH
18 KH
5 GH
410 TDS

Is it normal to have such high TDS but low GH? My house does use a water softener since our water in chicago is rock hard and was just wondering how that would play into all this. I don't have fish at the moment but when I do I'll be using 20% Tap and 80% RO water to get around 80 ppm TDS and raise that up with ferts.

Softened water will have high sodium content, since water softeners replace calcium and magnesium ions with sodium ions. That would give you a higher than expected TDS since sodium adds to the TDS. Softened water is not good water for planted tanks. Softened water that also goes through a RO/DI filter is good water.

So in other words I'll need to be using just ro water?

What about softeners that use Potassium pellets instead of Sodium, is that considered bad water for planted tanks too?
