Co2 effects on KH?

Hi there,

Im about about to set up a JBL Pro Flora 2 (haven't bought it yet so if theres a better one at the same price let me know!) in my planted Discus tank.

Now since its Discus I try to keep my water soft and acidic anyway, generally the water will be PH7 and KH 4 - 5 (I would love to get the PH lower but my KH always drops to much )

Now I know Co2 will lower my PH a bit which I dont mind but I am worried about the KH going to low and making the tank crash?

So will the Co2 have a big effect on my KH?

Cheers, Leon

And the PH drop caused by the co2 will not effect your fish ;-)

When co2 lowers the ph, it does not effect the TDS (Total Dissolved Solids) of the water, which a ph change that does effect the TDS can have an effect on fish. So no worries there, even if the ph after you introduce co2 is lower than you might want.

Wow that sounds perfect, I have no trouble getting my KH or GH low but my PH is very stubborn to go below 7.

Sounds like I need to buy some new plants now then before I stick the Co2 in

Cheers everyone
