Root tabs for carpet plants

Has anyone used (with any success) root tabs underneath their carpet plants? I was thinking about adding a few of the Seachem Flourish Root Tabs underneath my dwarf hairgrass to see how it works. They claim that these won't disolve or get mushy and muck anything up, so I think it might be worth a shot. Do root tabs offer any tangible benefit to something like Dwarf Hairgrass though, especially if I'm already using Eco-Complete (despite it being a few years old)

Also, do plants need to actually have their roots touching the root tab to get nutrients?

I can't remember where I read it, but I think you're supposed to space them 6" apart when putting them throughout an area like that.

Well it soitinly can't hurt! I insert them every couple of years in all of my tanks. The tabs slowly dissolve and get disperssed throughout the substrate.

I highly recommend them.... not that I am an expert on these things. But they do seem to work in my tanks.

FYI.... I push them down deep into the substrate IMO the deeper the better.

I"ve been debating putting them under my Micro Sword to help it grow. We put some under some vals in my display tank at work, and they are HUGE (the vals). Works nicely for the vals.

IME, the Seachem ones don't work...I put it in the substrate by the roots, and nothing happened

I have to completely agree. That's the same effect that I have gotten over the years. And to make matters worse: I have inserted seachem root tabs next to crypts on more then one occassion--just to have the crypts take a quick nose dive right after..... Not sure about other plants, but I know its happened more then once for me with crypts....

I have found the "Wonder Gro" tabs to work Great! But it seems to be a short term "flush" of growth....then they don't seem to have much effect. 1/4 tabs often is what I have found to work well....
