Interesting nitrate reading...

I just added my fish to the AqAdvisor and it says 85% stocking and recommended water change of 23% weekly.
I use one dose of what the EI says to use three times a week for my tank except that I also add Chelated iron...1/32 tsp @ 10%.
And I use half of what they recommend on the Potassium except that I use
K2SO4 instead of KNO3.
That has no NO3 in it but I am getting a fairly good amount of nitrates at the end of the week still. At least it's a darker shade of Orange but no red tint yet.
Not until you allow it to set for a while after the 5 min usual time.
Then it does get a slight red tint to it.
Would you think that this is normal with that 85% stocking level ?
They really have no faster growing plants in there. I put a few but they have
yet to grow much at all.
So the bio-filter is working well but there is not much to use up the nitrates.

The shortest distance between any two points is a straight line...in the opposite direction...

Probably is just about right.
If the plants are slow, or there are not a lot then they do not remove very much nitrogen in any form, so you will see a built up through the week just about the same as a non-planted tank.
You are smart not to add any NO3 fertilizer, and low doses of the other materials. I would concentrate on potassium and iron. Fish food usually has a reasonable amount of most other things.
