Osmcote+ Root Gel Caps - How long do they last?

I'm sure there are some "it depends" but is there any general guidence?

When I was using Seachem Root tabs I didn't know the answer either, but found about 2 months seemed to work, growth stayed steady.

So I put in more Osmcote+ at 2 months also, and so far so good.

But... any general consensus? Is that about right? Too often or too long?

2-3 months depending on if your tank is high or low tech. I would usually get 3 months from the Osmocote+ when I used it my low tech setups. If you're running pressurized CO2 and high light, I'd suggest you replace the caps every 2 months or when you start seeing macro related deficiencies.

The gels starts to melt almost immediately (you will feel this when you plant the root tabs into the water, it starts to stick to your fingers), the osmocote lasts for months, but whenever I reroot plants etc, they pop up to the surface, perhaps they don't "disappear" and their efficiency is stunted but they definitely just stay there. I manually remove them after a few months.

You manually remove all those little tiny nodules? With a few dozen root tabs that's a hundred or two?

So they don't dissolve?

When they float to the top I remove them, I don't know if they dissolve, on the ground, there's a bunch of them now. I don't pay attention only when it floats to the top.

Top of the water? Oh... ok, haven't seen that. That wouldn't be an issue.

I figured you were trying to pick them out of the substrate.

Whew....
