I guess I'm tired of the guessing game and I wanted to find out if it is worth it to just get the precise nutrient levels in order to figure out the fertilization.

Hi,

Ward Laboratories, Inc come to mind but there are many others probably local.

Check with your State Cooperative Extension office.

If you share your location I can probably help, or just call your local water district and ask to speak to a chemist. Let them know you are a hobbyist; they really can be very helpful.

Respectfully,

If your Guru tells you otherwise and you are true believer that is okay I will not argue the point.

I pretty much limit what I say to things that anyone can easily verify from recognized references or by direct observation. If it is my opinion I say so.

I guess a larger question here is will knowing your nutrient levels exactly take away the guessing game? Yes, you'll know your exact nutrient levels.. but how much does that buy you? Does this solve all your problems, or does it just move you one step further along to get to another guessing game.

It's not like we have a great deal of technical data on the specific needs of every nutrient needed by each species of aquarium plant. How many ppm of boron does Ludwigia Red need? Sulfur needs of Crypt Wendtii?

That's why EI is popular.. OD a little bit to try to make sure nutrients aren't a limiting factor and let water changes prevent it from growing into a major OD. This is simpler than trying to find exactly what your plants need and tune your fertilizer dosing to exactly match.

True, it probably won't give you much useful info. But if there's high levels of copper, magnesium, cadmium, lead, etc. in the local tap, it might be handy to know.

If you are on a public water supply , do a check for the water report to get much of that info. If you are on a private well, well drillers in the area can lead you to who does the testing in your area.
