Getting Fertz across the boarder

I was going to order EI dry material from GLA and have it shipped to an acquaintance in the US who would forward it to me (since GLA wont ship to Canada)....BUT....I got to thinking... bags of white power/crystal chemicals...hummm....

If it gets opened at the boarder will I be taken to the "special room" for questioning?

I'm not a Canadian, but I have heard that potassium nitrate, which we commonly use, is restricted as an explosive in Canada. Being caught bringing it in without proper paperwork would most likely not be a good thing, and could result in more than just questioning, as it is likely illegal to bring into Canada.

No problem. Just tell the RCMP that you're bringing in a potential fertilizer explosive across the border to help a friend run a "plant growing operation".

I'm sure they'll be REAL understanding, especially after you set off all of the bomb-sniffing dogs.

That being said, KNO3 is working great for my crypts, swords, and hornwort, the plants consume any ammonia as soon as the fish add it so they appreciate the nitrogen.

Alternative idea: You can get potassium legally with potassium sulfate or potash from the home improvement store garden department. Maybe stock some more fish to get more nitrogen?

I also get mine from canadian aquatics. Good guys, I don't buy livestock from anyone else. Kno3 is simple to obtain. At least in bc, it is required to produce a letter of intent which states the amount purchased and intended use along with a photocopy of a government issued photo ID.

Lol, have you been to Canada? Kidding, loved the sarcasm.

I'm not sure where you are living but any major city in Canada will have a hydroponics shop or 3. Just go there with your shopping list. Saves on shipping. Also gets you to build a repor with a local business so getting KNO3 might be easier the next time.

The first time I bought KNO3 they had to dissolve it in water, PITA. Now that they know I'm not making bombs, they give it to me dry.

You can get the stuff no problem in Canada.

I seriously would never take the risk of trying to smuggle it across the border. Your upside is saving 10$. Not worth it.
