Hi Chondrobob,

Excel is 1.5% glutaraldehyde
Metricide 14 is 2.6% glutaraldehyde

Metricide is about twice as strong

If you want a calculator to measure out the correct dosage of metricide for your size tank let me know I use something that gives a respective 1.6% comparison

Roughly speaking, 6 ML of Metracide = 10 ML Excel, and yeah, throw the activator away. Dont use that.

I have a 140g 1/2 cylinder 57"inside back length x by 27" wide at the interior apex and surface to substrate about 24" inches, I bought it used so I think it's about 140 gallons.
I have organic soil sandwiched between layers of flourite about 3 to 5 " deep
I have two Current Sat + 48" and a 36"
Filter is a fx6
Temp 80
Here's a picture it's up for about a month..
Dosing excel, flourish and flourish iron.
What dry ferts should I use..
Also will Purigen absorb the ferts? I want to reduce the tannins color...

Burr, I really liked your red/ purple plants in your 75g do you think they flourish in my tank and what are they?

Purigen does not remove fertilizers.
Dry ferts:
Macros = N, P, K. Usually purchased in the form of
KNO3, KH2PO4, K2SO4.
If you follow the Estimative Index method then you will be using enough KNO3 to supply both the NO3 and the K requirements. If you modify the dosing to get less NO3, then you should use K2SO4 to give the plants the K they need.

Micros are also called trace elements or trace minerals.
Most people buy a pre-mixed blend such as CSM+B. They may add some chelated iron. Roughly 3-4 parts CSM+B:1 part iron.

Which plant specifically are you referring to? The deep red on far left is Ludwigia glandulosa, it needs high light and CO2 to turn that shade. You can see what it looks like under med light/no CO2 I think around page two.

Otherwise, just be more specific I will be glad to share my experiences with whatever.
