for those who dose kno3, question.

so lets assume you have just done a large wc (50%), your nitrates are round 5-10ppm and you on a fresh week of dosing.

what amount of nitrates would you be at roughly come day 4 or 5 right before you doing your weekly wc?

is it as high as maybe 80ppm? or is your uptake so great that you don't ever hit 30+?

just curious if people even bother to check.

I am not sure what you are asking. For me, I never really massively overdose, but my tanks will suck down about 3-10ppm of nitrates a day. So at the end of the week, I have about the same as I started with. I always try to keep 10ppm in the tank. But I have a pretty steady tanks. If you are wondering about the build of nitrates. This should answer your question. http://rota.la/ei/

I also try to maintain about 5-20ppm NO3.
Higher, and I do water changes. And reduce the dosing.
Lower, and I dose a bit more.

Mostly I do not bother checking since most of my tanks are plant-only tanks.

When I was actually testing, I found that on one take, my nitrate would actually bottom out. I usually was in the 5-10 PPM range. It did not build up during the week either, I didn't test consistently every day long term but it never got up very high. Realize that these were only in my high light/high tech tanks, I rarely does my low tech and often just use Flourish Comprehensive instead so I never really dose KNO3 into tanks which may have much lower uptake of nutrients.

It depends on how much you dose, how much nitrate your tank produces, any nitrate in your tap water and how much your plants utilize.

Assuming you have no nitrate in your tap and your tank produces none.

Dosing a full EI dose of 7.5ppm every other day, your level will be no higher than 45ppm at the end of the week (that's also assuming your plants are not using ANY which is doubtful). If it's higher, then nitrates are coming from another source such as your tap or the end process of the beneficial bacteria.
