Best KH test kit?

I use API for all of my other kits, is their KH kit good too? Or is there a better, more accurate kit? Also, I use API for pH, but the intervals seem rather far apart...is there a kit that is a bit more precise?

Thanks so much,

Laura

There is a way to use more water and then the steps are only 1/2 as big, but I really dont understand it. I think plantbrain mentioned it, you could ask him.

Lamotte is pretty good, down to about 2-4ppm(20$ or so), you can go lower using Hach's digital tritrator(50-100$ or so).

This method work to some degree by increasing the resolution of the test kit. For example, API normally suggests you to use 5 mL and then count the number of drops of reagent added until the colour change occurs. Each drop is equal to 1 dGH.

If you increase the amount of water to be tested to 10 mL, then each drop of reagent will represent 0.5 dGH, and so on (i.e. 20 mL of water would mean that each drop is 0.25 dGH). This is helpful especially when you want to prepare a 4 dkH solution and do not have access to an analytical balance (like I do :P)

Darkblade48: I'm sure that you meant to say dKH and not dGH.

bordercollie05: I have the Lamotte Alkalinity test kit that Tom mentioned. It's great for my use. It even changes to a different color if you add too much solution. It measures in ppm or mg/L and not dKH, but you can convert ppm to dKH by dividing ppm by 17.8575 or by multipling ppm by 0.056.
