calcium chloride v. calcium sulfate

I'm still in the process of formulating my own gh booster and wanted to ask what's prefered, calcium chloride or calcium sulfate and why? calcium carbonate is just way too hard to dissolve.

Thanks!

Are you more comfortable with adding chloride or sulfate to your water?

I use sulfate simply because that's what my GH booster was made with. I'd probably choose it anyway because it's pretty easy to pick up a tub of plaster at the home improvement store.

I'm with you, and for the same reasons. Anyone else?

I tried both CaCl2 and CaSO4... I settled on CaCl2 simply because it was easier to dissolve and I also figured I was getting enough SO4 input via K2SO4 and Mg2SO4 - but I don't know what the impact of having more or less SO4 would be.

Cheers!

Indeed, I've read posts where folks were vehemently against adding so much sulphate, and others where chloride was equally despised. I don't add much GH builder anyway, so I figure whatever the difference, it's all pretty inconsequential anyway. I keep telling myself I'll get a magnetic stirrer to make the process easier, but the other day I broke my liter beaker... which really has no relevance, but it was upsetting because I always used it to mix my gh/kh cocktail. Just needed to share, lol.

And I thought breaking a 400 and a 600 mL beaker were bad. A 1L beaker is worse!

I will be using quite a bit as my water is super duper soft. ~12 grams CaS04 and 4 grams Mg2S04 in my 50 gallon water change daily.

I hadn't thought about using a magnetic stirrer to mix the gh cocktail. I have one that I use for brewing.
