It also helps to get some CO2 into your tank.

Isn't that the main purpose of Non Co2 method? To let the plants adapt to low CO2 levels ,rather than confusing them with different levels of Co2 when changing the water?
When I was changing water weekly ,I used to get BBA ,and my GH and KH would climb fast ,cause my tap water is hard - one of the other reasons why I decided to go the Non Co2 method.
My tap water has 20 ppm N ,but almost no phosphates.....it is why I started dosing some P and K ,and micros once in a while.
I still have some hesitation about changing water monthly ,so far ,the longest period between changes was 2 weeks interval. Now I intend to go for 3 weeks without WC ,then a month.Easy does it.
I figure ,if I have plants ,good circulation , acceptable levels of NO3 ,and no ammonia or nitrites ,water changes can wait, right?
Of course ,easier said than done .....I always changed water weekly ,it was my Sunday ritual.Really hard to break this routine.
