Drastically different results

I recently started pressurized CO2 and according to Chuck's chart I have about 50 ppm but according to my drop checker with 3kh solution, yellowish green. I believe if I had 50 ppm my drop checker would be very yellow. What would account for the difference and which one should I go by? Thanks in advance!

Occasionally, buffers in the tank can skew the results of the chart. If anything in the tank is artificially causing a ph or kh result, the chart won't be accurate. The idea of the drop checker is to take these potential problems out of the equation. The standard kh solution in the drop checker is affected only by the co2 (acidic), which cause the color of the reagent to change.

Just curious, why are you using 3dkh reagent? I've never seen that before. Most folks use 4dkh, some use 5.

Simply because up untill a few days ago, I was using DIY and couldn't come close to 30ppm,(HOB, possible outgassing-soon to be setting up canister) so I wanted a closer estimate of how much was really in my tank. At a 4kh solution, it was always blue. I haven't had the chance to change it since starting pressurized. So is the drop checker what I need to go by? I want to know if I should crank it up a bit!

Yea, as long as your 4dkh is true and there are no leaks/tank water in the drop checker, I'd say increase it slowly. Keep an eye on your fish and slowly increase until it's in the desired range.
