Prime/False Ammonia Reading

Is there any way to get a good reading without waiting the 24 hours until Prime dissipates? I have not been able to find a reasonably priced test kit that will give me the right reading right away.

Ammonia will still read, even though it's neutralized for 24 hours.

t0p- are you sure that Seachem's ammonia test will still read accurately? I think I remember a rep chiming in on a thread saying not to test for 24 hours...

No, if you have real ammonia in the tank, it will still read positive. I am saying that if you don't actually have ammonia, but you dosed for a water change (and the prime reacted with the chloramine), then you will get a false positive for 24 hours. Seachem says their kit will work with Prime still in the system:

You need a Freshwater/Saltwater (Salicylate) Ammonia test kit when using Prime, Ammo Lock, Amquel, etc. Notice that it uses two reagents.

The freshwater Nessler-type ammonia test kits will give false positives when using Prime, etc. It has a single reagent.

What about API ammonia tester. Is that good to use with Prime? That is what I use for testing ammonia.
