CO2 for 175g (multiple reactors?)

Hi,

i am setting up a new 175 g tank and i am new to CO2 injection. I have an Aquamedic 1000 reactor in the outer line of one of my canisters and a PH controller.
I have been running 2-3 bps CO2 rate flow for the last 2 days during the day (off at night). PH dropped 0.8 over 2 days, which seems very slow.
Obviosly there is not enough CO2 in the tank.

Question is, is it even possble to achieve good CO2 levels with Aquamedic 1000 alone? Should i try to go constant stream of bubbles? Any chance of having too MUCH CO2 in that case?
Is second reactor necessary for tank this size?

Currently there are plants and shrimp in the tank, but no fish (still trying to work out all the kinks in the setup before i put fish in)

I don't have personal experience with this reactor, but it is rated up to 500 gallons. Even though these ratings are usually quite high, it seems to me that it should work for a tank of your size. I would try to increase the bubble count first. The more bubbles, the more co2 gets into the tank. I would do this slowly over time, to prevent the potential for increasing co2 too high. There is a danger of too much co2, as high levels prevent the inhabitants from "exhaling" co2, which can cause gill damage and death. Shoot for around 30ppm. You can get a drop checker to help you verify the levels in your tank. HTH
