I run 2 XP3's on my 75 gal. Both are rated at 350 gph. So I'm at almost 10x turnover per hour. Of course that is assuming that the filters are actually pushing that much water... which I doubt. I also have a 160 gph powerhead in there for some additional flow.

Yeah, I hate dead spots.

3x really isnt going to cut it. 7-10 is perfect,5-7 good, anything less is bad unless it is really good filtration with powerheads. With only 3x turnover per hour you are likely to have spots that are really cold and hot spots if your heater runs alot.

I know the 350 gph is the flowrate of the XP3 without media, though I can't find that photo of the side of the box that indicates that (it was posted somewhere here recently though). The Eheim rate is with media, but I'm also quite sure for my particular setup that the 2217's flow is significantly decreased due to the UVS and CO2 reactor. In any case, I'm very happy with the flow and filtration for my 75, no dead spots, no detritus accumulation, no fish being blown across the tank either.

Yeah, I knew that about the Renas. Hence the disclaimer. But I don't have any way to measure actual flow in there. I guess what I was trying to say is that it seems pretty hard to have "too much" filtration. I'm sure it can be done, but I don't often hear anyone complain about having too much flow or filtration going on.

I do see people complain about dead spots, cold spots, and under-filtration.

Heck, if I thought the wife would not have a major meltdown, I would consider a third filter on my 75. That Eheim 2217 looks nice.
