Confused by Test Results

So I just tested my water with API freshwater master kit. I'm confused by the pH results. The normal range pH shows it on the low end (~6.0) while the high end pH test shows it, well, high. Why are these results conflicting?

Are you sure you added 5 drops for the high range and 3 drops for the low?

100% sure. I'm going to test again here and see if it changes.

Edit: After retesting... I'm 100% sure I did it backwards... this is why you shouldn't test before morning coffee!

Thanks for the reply!

High range and middle range meet, and do not overlap.
If your pH is 6.8, then both will show you that.
If your pH is < 6.8 then the high range will show 6.8 (a false reading), and the low range will tell the truth.
If your pH is > 6.8 then the mid range will show 6.8 (a false reading), and the high range will tell the truth.

It may seem redundant and some will scoff at the idea but there is a simple way to do a sanity check on tests. I find many people do have trouble with getting the correct results with liquids when they first start testing. There are numerous ways to skew the results. So, even though the test strips are not as accurate, they can do very well as a test to cross check your liquid tests when you get weird readings.
They may not be top grade but there are few ways to screw up the readings if you can time 30 and 60 seconds! I find the cheap Jungle brand from Wal-mart gives me a quick simple check for trends on the things I want to see stay the same like PH/GH/KH.
