to RO or not to RO that is the question

I have very hard well water.
pH 7.8
GH >300 ppm
KH ~250 ppm

I have a whole house water softener water from the tap i get
pH 7.6
GH <25 ppm
KH <40 ppm

If I mix the the 2 I get
pH 7.6
GH ~150 ppm
KH ~180 ppm

My tank 75 gal has been running about 7 weeks and I'm not having any problems (other than some diatoms)
Ammonia 0
Nitrite 0
Nitrate <20 ppm

tests are averages from my Test strips (liquid ammonia) and LFS tests

Is it worth the money for me to get a RO unit? My gut (and wallet) say if its not broke don't fix it.

Are there other advantages to RO that I'm not seeing?
I shock chlorinate the well 2 a year and have no bacteria or nitrate issues.

Any thoughts?

Thanks

If you want to keep fish that demand soft water, especially to breed these fish, then you will want RO. The water softener is adding sodium to the water (usually) and the RO will take that out.

If you are keeping average sort of community fish that have been bred for many generations in captivity then the 50/50 blend looks pretty good.

If you are keeping hard water fish (many live bearers, certain Rainbows and their relatives, Rift Lake cichlids, some others) then pure well water, or well water with just a little softened water would work just fine.

Might be worth getting a TDS meter. That will show you how much other things are in the water besides what the GH and KH tests are showing.

I should have listed my livestock
8 White cloud Minnows
9 neon tetras
6 mollies (these have given birth and I've got 3 fry that I was able to move to another tank)
4 julii corry
3 otos
3 SAE
2 dwarf frogs
1 pearl gourami
10 ghost shrimp
I will be adding 8-10 glofish tetra for the kids and 10 cherry shrimp (these will be bread in another tank)

I'm not overly worried about breeding - if it happens it happens
