Well, my new tank is 2 weeks old now. The first week I was planting. Then I added my 17 zebra danios 1 week ago. Doing 10% weekly water changes. I'd have to say the plants are growing very nicely. I see daily development.

Now for my question. I haven't seen any amonia nor nitrite levels. I've been checking every couple days and always at 0ppm. When could I expect an amonia spike on a new planted tank? I know that if my plants are doing well, then maybe they are comsuming all fish byproducts and therefore, I might not need 4-6 weeks for cycling...

I'm asking because I want to add 3 SAE but I don't want to end up in an amonia spike a few days later...

Any thoughts?

Yves

Check out http://www.csd.net/~cgadd/aqua/art_plant_newtank.htm

Your probably wont see any spikes as the plants will consume it as fast as it is produced
