question about co2 level

If your light period comes on at 5pm.
Do you want to have co2 at optimum level at 5 pm
or keep it there the whole light period?
or at the end of the light period which is at 12 pm?

If co2 optimum level is 30 ppm, how do you keep that during your photo period? You just keep pumping co2 until the end of light period?

You want to have the optimal CO2 concentration throughout your photoperiod (so from 5 pm until your lights turn off, which I assume to be 12 am, not 12 pm (the latter would be 19 hours of light).

You need to keep injecting CO2 while the lights are on to maintain 30 ppm.

i see. I just wanted to clarify.

I started injecting co2 last night to try out the cerges reactor. My ph probe shows a full one point drop in ph. However, the co2 drop checker was still blue-green. I will switch out the co2 drop checker solution today and retest.
My discus was up top, not grasping for air, but hanging out up top more.

I'm going to try to increase circulation with powerhead. But there's already a 2000gph pump going into spraybar with about 5 ft head loss.
Anyone has pictures or video of fish grasping to see how far i can push the co2 level and then dial it back?

Different fish species react differently to high CO2 levels. I found that the smaller, active fish would head for a corner, usually a corner where the CO2 concentration would be the lowest, and look like they were gulping air from the surface. Some less active fish would just lay on the substrate, losing their colors. When my fish clustered in a corner I found that I was very close to losing some - I did lose some at times. So, that was what I looked for the most. Now I know that I should have worked harder to keep the oxygen level in the water higher, which allows the fish to live with a higher CO2 concentration.
