Seachem Fluorish

So, I've upped the light on my tanks, I'm dosing Excel, and now I'm go to start dosing fluorish? (Anyone know how many drops for 5 gallons?)

For 75g, I guess I just dump a cap in.

I feel like I'm being pulled to the dark side for the force.

According to the directions on the product webpage:

Quote:
Directions

Use 1 capful (5 mL) for each 250 L (60 gallons) once or twice a week. For smaller doses, please note that each cap thread is approximately 1 mL. Refrigeration after opening is recommended but not required.

Thanks. It was late, an any time I tried to work out the ratios, they didn't make sense.

So that would be two drops per week after water change?

OK, just did the ratios, and given the 20 drops / ml for water-like substances,

(5 ml / 60 gallons) * (20 drops / 1 ml) = 1.666666, or 1.5 drop per gallon.

So for my 5 gallon tank, I'd use 7 drops per week. They say to start off small and ramp up, though.

You shouldn't round until the very end; I am getting 8.3 drops for your 5 gallon aquarium.

You're right. I was just being conservative because it's Fluorish, and they say to use every week to every other week (I think)

As I pasted in my message above, the manufacturer recommends once or twice a week.

Thanks. Like I said, chronic insomnia often leads to misunderstandings like this. I should have my bottle in a few days. I need to write how many drops of what on the bottle so I don't get confused.

Thanks again.

the instructions don't mean a whole lot. they are just a starting point for avg light and avg plant density (whatever 'av' is??). seachem doesn't know your setup.

upped you light to what?
and what sub are you using?
and how densely planted?

Keep increasing your dose until you no longer see a difference in the plants. Same applies to Co2, if your injecting it.

I run a 29gal high light (96w t5ho) with 1 yr old aqua soil and a ton of plants. so I dose flourish @ 10ml every second day. Macros in between. Any less and the plant colours drop off. And my high light (48w pl) 8gal with new aqua soil gets 1ml of flourish daily + macros.

So every tank is different. Ramp it up till there's no perceivable difference. Taking photos helped me. It might take a few months to find your magic amount. Actually I'm surprised how much flourish my tanks take. I'll be moving to dry fertz next time I run out of liquid.

I'm very new to plants, and am currently using Excel for carbon, and will start using Fluorish for ferts.

Are you suggesting I up the dose each week until either bad things start happening or the tank is no longer showing significant signs of improvement?

Still not sure about your lights, but a ballpark starting point for your 5gal might be 0.25mls twice per week. Do that for 2-3 weeks. If you're happy leave it like that. If you want to experiment and hope for improvement, up the flourish and excel mls a bit for 2-3 weeks. See if you can spot the difference.

Light is Current USA Satellite Freshwater LED+ Fixture
Tank dimensions is 17 x 6 x 10.6, so the light is about 11 inches up which evidently gives me 36 PAR, not that I know what that is yet.

you're par is a little less than half of mine (I've never measured it, I'm going off a barr report post about the same led I have, so i only hope it's accurate).

So I'd start at 0.25 x 2 weekly. Even with lots of plants I doubt you'll have to increase it to more than 0.5ml x 2 weekly.

So 5 drops after weekly water change, and 5 drops midweek. I doubt I'll need to increase.

Thanks for your help.
