Hey planted tank people, anyone experience pulling up these fertilizer when uprooting plants for trimming? I have a high a nitrate problem and i'm thinking its due to me uprooting these tabs? I don't have any algae either, so I'm not sure if they are leeching excess nutrients or maybe they're leeching ammonia instead causing my nitrates to skyrocket.....Ammonia:0 nitirte:0 nitrate: over 80 -.-
Any suggestions or comments will be appreciated.
It is possible that is the cause, how long have the root tabs been in there? Just because you see the little balls doesnt mean that they have anything left to leech. After a month or two they have released all the ferts but the little balls are left behind.
I would make sure you are using the nitrate test correctly. Even then, they are notoriously inaccurate unless you calibrate them.
I pull them out anytime I see them on the surface. I'm tired so I'm not sure that even is relevant to your question, but there you go.
