Question dry ferts not dissolving

I bought the EI dry ferts from nilocg here and am using them for my low tech 55g.
I am definitely dosing on the low end of the EI and am still working out the ideal schedule.

All that aside. the micros did not seem to dissolve as well as I would have thought in the bottle. I do give them a good shake before I measure and add to the tank, but not sure if I missed a step in the mix or if this is normal (first go at dry ferts)
if they won't dissolve will my solution get less effective if they get added to the tank and less in the bottle to dose?

Normally the micros dissolve very easily.

Some things that will help with this is:

use RO/DI water
use warm water(bath water temp is fine)

Just to make sure you added one of the packets of micros to one bottle and one macro packet to the other bottle correct?

The micros seem harder to dissolve. I starting using hot water which helped a lot. As long as you are not near the solubility limit it should dissolve. Letting it sit over night helps as well. What are the amounts of Plantex (I assume) and water?

yep only added one packet of the micros, and used distilled water. though it wasnt warm, just room temp. I had wondered about that when I was filling. any harm in warming the already filled bottle if i float it in a double boiler? then try to get them to dissolve?

also I assume no harm if some of the undissolved particles get into the tank?

thanks!!

Ya you can heat some water than then sit the dosing bottle into the water to heat it. Pm me if you are still having some problems. It wont hurt anything if some doesnt dissolve.

BTW, how much isnt dissolving?

will try the warming method tonight. I will see if i can get a pic of what has settled to the bottom of the bottle.
fyi i filled the bottle up to where it starts to mold into the measuring section. seemed the right amount.

I just got some dry ferts the other day and iwas gonna start dosing maybe next Monday. could I just initially get the right amount og ferts then dump them straight into the tank? or would ineed to put it in a bottle and shake then dump into tank?

I have the same stuff, it took a few days of shaking before it was completely dissolved.

Next time you add a packet, put a little in and shake until dissolved. Repeat until the packet is empty.

If you have a Pyrex measuring cup, you can do the mixing in that, nuke it in the microwave, stir, repeat as needed, and pour into your bottle.

Its my understanding you can dose them dry (without premix) the setup I have is for easier measurements (lazy)

I know some people will dose them dry but could also just get a cup of tank water to help them dissolve before adding to the tank.

Yes there is nothing wrong with dumping the dry ferts directly into the tank. Wont hurt a thing.

thanks! I just bought some measuring spoons but ididnt realize that they didn't have 1/32 tspn and 1/16 tspn.

what would be the easiest way to get the accurate scoop of ferts with just the standard measuring spoons, 1/4 tspn etc.?

or where could iget a cheap measuring spoons with all sizes?
