Ammonia in tap water
I just got off the phone with our water department because when I tested our tap water it had something like 2 or 4ppm ammonia in it (i cant remember the color chart off the top of my head, but it was a medium-dark green, API kit). Basically, they use an ammonia-chlorine solution to treat the water. I'm also trying to do the EI index fert method, which of course includes big water changes. I'm thinking that doing such a big water change with ammonia-filled water is probably a bad thing.
Question is: Is it safe to rely on my water conditioner (Seachem Prime) to convert that ammonia to ammonium in such a big water change? I don't want to endanger the fish if it can be avoided, but water changes are a necessity.
Buying gallons of distilled water every time i want to water change is not an option >_<
