kH issues (TOO High)

Just thought I'd post this to see what other people have to say. I've been trying to read and figure out what caused this.

A few of my fish died this past week so I did a water test to see what's up. My kH was 14+ and my pH was at 6.4. (My test kit only works until 12)

Usually my kH is about 8-10.

So I did a 7 gallon water change (21 gallons tank size) on Sat and retested my kH. It went down to 12.

I turned off my CO2 and autodoser as an experiment.
The next morning I checked my kH again and it was at 14!!!
So I did a 10 gallon change.

This morning I checked it, my kH is now 9.
The tap water kH is 7. I think my pH was at like 7.0.

Thoughts:
I starting autodosing in the end of December because I went on vacation. When I came back the CO2 was low so I turned it up for the last 3 weeks.
My CO2 is from a welding supply place. Possible contaminants?

In case anyones wondering I dose
1/4 tsp K three times/wk
Flourish half cap three times/wk
1/32 tsp N once/wk
in 3.5 cups dechlor water

5 gallon water change once a week

I usually only fill one weeks of ferts in my container for autodoser. On Sundays I clean it out and make a new batch. But last week I didn't clean out the remains in the container.

I'm wondering if your test kits could be bad. At the first numbers you post you would have CO2 levels of 167 ppm. That would normally kill more than a few fish.

Then you state you turned off the CO2 yet your kH was at 9 and the pH was 7. That would be impossible without CO2 or some other buffer lowering the pH.

I'm not sure. I calculated ridiculously high levels of CO2 before (RED ZONE) and none of the fish were gasping. I found it bizarre but I passed it off as my fish being accustomed to the CO2. But I am using Aquarium Pharmecuticals test kits (not exactly the most accurate things in the world...)

When I measured my kH this morning, it was 9 but I wasnt sure about the pH.

Now my kH is 10, pH 7.0. My CO2 was turned back on as of a hour ago.
