help make sense of this please?

I was away over the holidays and came back to bba and thread algae. The power outage tripped my power bar when the electricity turned on and my Co2 and lights were off for 2 weeks.

I just did a water change (1-2x weekly 50% - higher than weekly because of bioload) and did my checks today. I dose liquid pre-mix at water change and add equilibrium to bump GH. There's crushed coral in my cannister.

ph 6.6
P04 0.5
Amonia 1.2 or 0.01
GH 100 ppm
KH 30 ppm
No4 0.3
Co2 12.8

I'm slowly trying to increase my Co2. I want to overdose with excell, but the last time I tried my yoyo loach was hovering at the top so I stopped, started the airstone and am now just retrying the pressurized Co2. I'm getting about 3 bps.

What are you trying to make sense of? Why, when lights/CO2 were turned off, you got thread algae and BBA? Assuming it's that, I'd guess that the algae was just a bit more efficient at soaking up nutrients left in the water column, while the plants "shut down" (at least more than the algae) due to CO2 and/or light limitation. Just my guess...it could be off base.

Regarding the Excel, I'd recommend trying spot treating if you've had bad experiences with the 'full' overdose approach. Just spot treat different areas on different days...and it'll work better if you can shut down your filter for a few minutes during the spot treating.

FWIW,
Brian.

I guess what I'm trying to make sense of is whether I have any water column deficiencies that would aid in the algae outbreak since yes, C02 and lights were off.

I will try the spot treatment. Thanks.
