How potent is CaNO3?

Im currently using CaNO3 to add NO3 into my tank. I add half a teaspoon 3 times a week in a 55g tank. My question is; does CaNO3 contain less NO3 than KNO3? Ef so, how much CaNO3 should I be adding so that the amount of NO3 is about the same that I would get from adding 1/2 tsp og KNO3?

Ca(NO3)2 contains more NO3 than KNO3 per molecule and per teaspoon/gram.

A good resource to check out is the fertilator offered on APC.

The difference between adding KNO3 and Ca(NO3)2 if using the same 3 teaspoons you use is about 9ppm more with the calcium nitrate per week in a 55 gallon tank.

I wouldn't worry too much about too much nitrate since there are little side effects from it that I know of. You run into more trouble when things bottom out.
